  • Castello Romitorio Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 ‘Filo di Seta’

    Song: Air on a G String by Sebastian Bach. Founded in 1984 by the worldwide popular artist Sandro Chia, one of the main representatives of the Italian Transavantgarde movement, Castello Romitorio has now become one of the leading wineries in Montalcino. Under the fearless guidance of Sandro’s son, Filippo, the estate combines the tradition of the territory of Montalcino with futuristic technologies. ‘Filo di Seta’ (Silk Thread) is the epitome of the greatness of Brunello di Montalcino, a wine of extraordinary quality and finesse.The bouquet is a still-life painting of incredible complexity.     Song: Hey Joe by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Surrounded by luscious forest, Romitorio has a special micro-climate with cooler nights, offering elegant Sangioveses of the finest quality. Intense, complex bouquet, the glass is a microcosm of dark fruits, Maraschino, candied orange peel, red rose, scents of balm and mushroom given by the nearby forest. Palate is an alternation of Rock and Blues, with a succulent impact of great intensity, perfectly balanced by the freshness typical of Brunello.     Song: Who Wants to Live Forever by The Queen. Castell’in Villa is a monument to Chianti Classico and the Princess Coralia Pignatelli della Leonessa is the sculptress of this masterpiece. Fearless leader of this historic estate from 1968, the Princess has shaped every wine made in the winery since then, taking Castell’in Villa to the top of the firmament of Italian wine. One of the most iconic labels of all Tuscany, the Riserva from Castell’in Villa is only produced when the severe quality standards of the Princess Coralia are met. Despite the difficulties of the 2017 vintage, this wine shines for the extraordinary complexity and quality of the aromas. Red ruby with garnet reflections, the wine shows an intense and seductive bouquet of black currants, sour cherry, potpourri, tobacco, leather and exotic nuances of black tea and cardamom.   • Il Molinaccio Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Docg 2019 'La Poiana'

    Song: Symphony No. 9: Ode to Joy by Ludwig van Beethoven . A bestseller in the history of the Perbacco Wine Club, Il Molinaccio is a young boutique winery, led by Alessandro Sartini, producing one of the most elegant Sangioveses in all Tuscany. Located in one of the coolest areas of Montepulciano, Il Molinaccio produces a ‘cool climate’ Vino Nobile. ‘La Poiana’ is the most Brunello-like Vino Nobile of all, showing elegance and intensity at the same time. The glass shows an inviting ruby red color. Notes of withered violets, cherry in spirits, dried apricot, prune, tobacco and an intriguing balsamic note of menthol. Both in the nose and the palate, all the compounds are beautifully carved in the masterpiece, everything is balanced and well organized in the most harmonious way like in a symphonic orchestra.   • Vini Franchetti Toscana IGT Rosso 2021 'Sancaba‘

    Song: I’d Rather Go Blind by Etta James. In 2011 Carlo Franchetti, cousin of the late Andrea Franchetti, iconic winemaker of Trinoro winery, started Sancaba, a parallel project based on Pinot Noir in San Casciano Dei Bagni, in the South-Eastern side of Tuscany. With higher altitudes and a biodynamic approach to winemaking, Sancaba shows the most elegant side of the wines from Franchetti family, with a Burgundy-style Pinot Noir that shows lightheartedness and impeccable quality. A profound and intense Pinot Noir, with notes of red-fleshed fruits such as raspberry and tart cherry, violets, cocoa and a silky touch of coffe beans. Palate is extremely balanced, refined and enjoyable, with many recalls to Burgundy. Structure is Blues, tannins are gentle and silky, while the complexity, typical of great Pinot Noirs, is given by a lingering freshness of red currants, raspberry and violets. Love, craziness, experimentation, expressiveness and simplicity: this is the perfect recipe applied by this biodynamic estate, led by the winemaker Sebastian Nasello, one of the stars in the firmament of Montalcino. The north-west vineyard of Le Ripi, surrounded by luscious forests that guarantee a cool shelter from warm summers, gives birth to this great ‘cool climate‘ Brunello di Montalcino. Intense ruby red, the wine offers a complex bouquet with notes of black currants, blackberry, withered violets, dark chocolate, candied orange peel, tobacco, mushrooms and an intriguing note of pinewood. Palate is Rock, rich, persistent, layered with flavors of currants, mushroom and pine, with a majestic tannin that leads to a succulent, lingering finish with a good mineral push.   • Podere della Bruciata Toscana Igt 2019 ‘Nonostante Tutto’

    Song: Sign of the Times by Harry Styles. Located in the southern side of Montepulciano, Podere della Bruciata has the highest vineyards in town, peaking 600mts asl, an altitude that guarantees a cool shelter to warm summers and perfect temperature swings. The dynamic Andrea Rossi is running the family estate, founded by Mr Ermete in 1956, carefully producing a limited amount of bottles in order to be able to guarantee high quality standards. Planted in 1956, the Petit Verdot vineyard gives a surprising version of a ‘cool climate Supertuscan’, with notes of concentrated red fruits, cherry in spirit, chocolate, leather, roasted red pepper and a note of elegant underbrush such as truffle. Palate is rich, succulent, with a sapid touch that appears to be the trademark of the house. A long-lasting flavor of blackberry and chocolate, leads to a firm but well integrated tannin.     Song: Moonage Daydream by David Bowie.Depopulated by the industrialization of the 20th century, Boca Doc, with its 50 acres of vineyards divided among 9 wineries, is one of the smallest appellations in Italy, producing fine Nebbiolos (aka Spanna in the area) in the very north of Piedmont, at the foothill of Monte Rosa. The area has cooler temperatures than Langhe, producing elegant wines that resemble pre-climate change Barolos. Silvia Barbaglia runs this incredible boutique winery and I fell in love with the elegance and authenticity of her wines. In the firmament of Piedmont, Boca is a rising star and this wine shines among all Nebbiolos, with a beautiful ruby red color with garnet reflections. Elegant bouquet of Maraschino, red rose, red berries, tobacco, eucalyptus and an intriguing hint of wet stone due to the soil, rich in mineral debris. Palate is complex, lustful, with a never-ending freshness of red currants and a firm tannin that leads to a long, savory finish. A cool climate Nebbiolo of the finest quality, with a Rock, yet elegant personality and an incredible persistence.     Song: I Only Have Eyes for You by The Flamingos. A star is born! I cannot hold the excitement for the discovery of this young family-run estate in Montalcino, led by Ilaria and her husband Michael, with its elegant Sangioveses and its unique heart-shaped vineyard. Located in the most wooded area of Montalcino, San Guglielmo was founded in 2016, from the vineyard previously planted by Ilaria’s father, who is still present in the everyday life of the winery with his experience and dedication. This Brunello represents the incredible debut of the winery and Ilaria could not pick a better vintage than 2016! Bouquet is elegant, complex, with notes of cherry in spirit, wild rose, eucalyptus, chocolate and some woodsy hints of mushroom and underbrush, trademarks of the area. Intriguing in the palate, with the elegance typical of the vintage, lascivious tannins and a Blues personality, with a long aftertaste of Maraschino, orange peel and mushroom.     Song: Shallow by Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper. A Brunello of great finesse, trademark of the winery, with notes of violets, Maraschino, red currants, herbaceous with notes of dried leaves, tobacco, leather and a mineral touch of crushed stones due to the rocky soil. Palate is energetic and approachable, extremely elegant. Tannins are polished and a good sapidity intertwines with a refreshing finish of mushroom and Maraschino.   • Podere Giodo Terre Siciliane IGT 2021 ‘Alberelli di Giodo‘

    Song: My Funny Valentine by Chet Baker. The irresistible charm of the Etna Volcano, in Sicily, has seduced Mr Carlo Ferrini, one of the most important Tuscan winemakers of modern times. Driven by the desire of making a special wine in the area, together with the daughter Bianca, Mr Ferrini has detected a small vineyard of local Nerello Mascalese, located on a high slope (900 meters asl) with exposure to North and cultivated with the typical Etnese sapling vine training system. The Volcanic soil, combined with 80-100 years old vines, produces a layered, mineral, yet elegant red, with notes of prunes, black currants, blood orange, potpourri, orange blossoms and a note of graphite, typical of the volcanic soil that does not overwhelm the other delicate aromas. Palate is layered and opens with a fresh flavor of prunes and currants, the tannin is firm but perfectly integrated, leading to a long-lasting sapidity given by the lava soil.
